Why here

Why Labuan Bajo is the main starting point

Labuan Bajo sits at the western tip of Flores, closest to Komodo National Park. It has the only nearby airport with regular flights (Bali, Jakarta, Surabaya), the only harbour with real charter infrastructure, and it's inside the park's 4-hour cruising radius for the marquee sites. Every serious Komodo private yacht charter starts here — day-boats from Bali or Lombok cannot reasonably reach Komodo.

Getting there

How to get to Labuan Bajo

From Bali (recommended)

Denpasar (DPS) → Labuan Bajo (LBJ), ~1 hour direct. Batik Air, Garuda, Citilink, Super Air Jet and Wings Air run multiple daily flights. Book a morning flight to comfortably meet embarkation.

From Jakarta / Surabaya

Direct flights from Jakarta (CGK/HLP) and Surabaya (SUB) — 2 to 2.5 hours. Fewer daily rotations; buffer overnight in Bali if timings are tight.

International

Route through Denpasar (DPS) — Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Doha, Dubai, Sydney and Hong Kong all connect. Add a Bali night either side of the charter for buffer and jet-lag recovery.

Airport & embarkation

Komodo International Airport is 15 minutes from the harbour by car. Most charters include the transfer. A tender collects you from the harbour and takes you to the yacht — usually a 10–20 minute run.

Embarkation

Typical embarkation-day process

  1. Arrive at Komodo Airport (LBJ) mid-morning to early afternoon.
  2. Driver meets you and transfers to Labuan Bajo harbour (~15 minutes).
  3. Tender collects you and takes you to the yacht anchored offshore.
  4. Welcome briefing on safety, itinerary, meals and dietary preferences.
  5. Cabin allocation, drinks on the sundeck, first meal on board.
  6. Casting off — usually within an hour of boarding — for the first anchorage (often Kanawa or Sebayur).
